Bär & Karrer since 1974.
Part time lecturer in the LL.M. -
and M.B.L. programs of the Universities of Zürich and St. Gallen, teaching
the subject of international dispute resolution and EC competition laws.
Dispute Resolution Experience and Training
Handled some 150 international
cases, most of them as presiding arbitrator, many as counsel; acted as mediator
in a number of cases.
Most of the cases (about 60 %)
related to major infrastructure or development projects. Disputes related e.g.
to the construction of shipyards, roads, paper and pulp mills, military
projects and air defence systems, universities, plants of the food industry,
waste treatment facilities, power plants, steel and aluminium plants, housing
and other infrastructure developments, North Sea and Atlantic Ocean oil
platforms, drilling equipment, pipeline construction.
The remaining approximately 40 % of
the cases related to international commercial transactions, such as disputes in
respect of acquisitions, joint ventures, intellectual property matters
including licence- and patent infringement disputes (e.g. in the pharmaceutical
as well as in the machine industry), the supply of computer systems and
software, the sale of goods/commodities, transfer of technology, oil and gas
concessions and supply contracts. About 25 cases included issues under EC- and
US competition/antitrust laws.
Authored about 55 publications and
conference reports.

Honorary President of ASA (the Swiss
Arbitration Association, past President from 1991 to 1997); list of the
Chairmen of the Zürich Chamber (since 1988); Court Member of the LCIA
(since 1992); Member of the WIPO Arbitration Council (1994 to 2001),
Vice-President of IFCAI (1991-2001), Mediator (CPR Panel). Listed as arbitrator
with numerous institutions such as ICC, LCIA, AAA, WIPO, Vienna Centre, ADR
Chambers International (Toronto), CIETAC - Beijing, Korean Board and the
Chambers of Zürich, Stockholm, Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic,
Croatia, Slovenia etc.
