Igor Ellyn, QC, Chartered Arbitrator
and Mediator, is a member of ADR Chambers International and The Private Court,
a Toronto-based Alternative Dispute Resolution group, which provides ADR
services consisting of Mediations, Arbitrations, including international
commercial arbitration and domestic arbitration, Early Neutral Evaluation,
Mini-Trials, Med-Arb, and Private Appeals from Arbitral Awards and Trial
Judgments.
Mr. Ellyn is a senior advocate,
arbitrator and mediator. For more than 28 years, he practiced as business
litigation counsel in the Toronto boutique firm of Ellyn-Barristers
(www.ellynlaw.com). He has expertise in a broad spectrum of business-related
matters, including shareholder and partnership disputes, international
commercial disputes, construction disputes, commercial landlord-tenant
disputes, insurance, securities, employment and professional responsibility
cases. He has been certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist
in civil litigation since 1989 and was designated Queens Counsel in 1984.
In 1997, Mr. Ellyn received the Law Society of Upper Canadas Bicentennial
Award of Merit.
A Fellow of the Chartered Institute
of Arbitrators (U.K.) and a Chartered Arbitrator, Mr. Ellyn is conversant with
international commercial arbitration and is able to conduct arbitrations and
mediations under the ADR Chambers process or, at the request of the parties,
under the UNCITRAL Model Law or Arbitration Rules, ICC or LCIA Rules or to
adjust the process to the needs of the parties. He is committed to effective
ADR and prompt resolution of commercial disputes.
Igor Ellyn is a well-known member of
the local and international Bar. He was President of Canadian Bar
Association-Ontario in 1994-95 and is Vice-President of the International
Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists (IAJLJ). He has been chair and a
speaker at more than 25 continuing legal education programs on various aspects
of business litigation practice. For many years, he was an instructor at the
Law Societys Bar Admission Course and Osgoode Hall Law Schools
Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop. A contributor to legal journals in Canada
and the United States, he also chaired the IAJLJ International Conference:
Pursuing Justice in the Global Village, Toronto, August 2000, and was the Chair
of the International Commercial Arbitration Seminar. He has participated in
legal conferences in Canada, USA, England, France, Italy, Israel and Poland.
Mr. Ellyn speaks six languages:
English, French Romanian, Hebrew, German and has some knowledge of Italian and
Spanish. He is able to conduct arbitrations, mediations, neutral evaluation and
mini-trials in English or French or bilingually. He lives in Toronto, is
married to Libby Ellyn and is the father of two daughters.
