The Honourable Paule Gauthier is a
senior partner with the law firm of Desjardins Ducharme Stein Monast affiliated
with Tory Tory DesLauriers & Binnington. She was appointed a member of the
Queen's Privy Council for Canada in November 1984, member of the Queen's
Counsel in December 1988 and Officer of the Order of Canada in October 1990.
She was called to the Québec Bar in 1967.
Ms. Gauthier is a specialist in
Corporate and Commercial Law and completed her Master's degree in Business Law
with a specialization in intellectual property at Laval University, in 1969.
She is a member of the Arbitration Committee of the Canadian Council for
International Business of the International Chamber of Commerce, a member of
Chapter 19 NAFTA Roster, a member of the American Arbitration Association, an
arbitrator and mediator of the Québec National and International
Commercial Arbitration Centre, arbitrator for the Commercial Arbitration and
Mediation Centre for the Americas and a panel member of the Canadian Foundation
for Dispute Resolution. Ms. Gauthier has acted as Chair on cases for the
International Chamber of Commerce and the Québec National and
International Commercial Arbitration Centre and on many cases in labour and
administrative law disputes.
Ms. Gauthier was panellist and
speaker for the Canadian Bar Association, Securities and Bankruptcy in Ukraine,
Russia, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Hungary. She was also panellist
for International Commercial Arbitration and Dispute Resolution in Canada.
She is a member of the Board of
Directors of the Royal Bank of Canada, Royal Trust Corporation of Canada,
Celanese Canada Inc., IBM Canada Ltd., Rothmans Inc., Laval University and the
Canadian Foundation for the Americas. She is Consul General of Sweden
(Honourary) and Chair of the Security Intelligence Review Committee.
Ms. Gauthier was President of the
Canadian Bar Association in 1992-1993. She is a member of the International Bar
Association, of the Union Internationale des Avocats and an associate member of
the American Bar Association.
