Crime and civil (mainly PI),
though more crime than civil, some planning work.
Beginning in 1966 I sat as a
Deputy and Assistant Recorder at Quarter Sessions and as Deputy Chairman of
Rutland and Derbyshire Quarter Sessions prior to the coming into force of the
Courts Act 1971. Thereafter I was a Recorder of the Crown Court and sat from
time to time as a Deputy High Court Judge, Queens Bench (mainly P.I).
Circuit Judge 1980 sitting in
the Crown Court (mainly) and the County Court.
1987-1988 a Senior Circuit Judge
and Honorary Recorder of Birmingham sitting mainly in the Crown Court but also
sat regularly in the High Court, Queens Bench.
1988-2000 a High Court Judge,
Queens Bench. Did the mixed work of a Queens Bench Judge though
less civil work after I was put on the list of nominated Judges who try
judicial review cases.

Post retirement (June 2000)
authorised to sit as a Deputy High Court Judge in the High Court, Court of
Appeal (Civil and Criminal Divisions) and Crown Court. |
