Practice Profile
Michel Kallipetis has a practice
which combines employment law with a substantial practice in professional
negligence and general commercial work. His practice in the employment field
covers all aspects of contract, restrictive covenants, dismissal,
discrimination, disciplinary action, transfer of undertakings and health and
safety at work. He acted for the major construction companies who constructed
the Thames Barrier and the Channel Tunnel, and he is instructed regularly by
Health Authorities and Hospital Trusts. He has advised and acted on several
occasions in disputes in entertainment, music and film industry.
Counsel appointed by the Joint
Venture Group of UK and Dutch companies constructing the Thames Barrier.
Advised on all labour problems, and the submission of the reference to
Arbitration. Acquired detailed knowledge of the technical engineering problems
encountered in constructing the Thames Barrier.
Advised Costains, Tarmac and Wimpey
on a variety of problems, most of which required an understanding of the civil
engineering aspects of major construction projects.
Appointed to advise Trans Manche
Link JV during the construction of the Channel Tunnel. Advised on all aspects
of health and safety, including TMLs procedures for the control of
hazardous substances, the prevention of fire due to the escape of flammable
gases, and safe working systems using corrosive substances in a confined area.
Acquired a detailed knowledge of the civil engineering, electrical and
construction problems encountered, the operation of the railway systems, and
difficulties caused by the employment of different disciplines within a
confined area.
In the field of professional
negligence, he is regularly instructed by solicitors on behalf of the
Solicitors Indemnity Fund, and has acted in several cases involving major
banks and claims of several million pounds. He has also acted in negligence
cases involving valuers, accountants, and barristers.
He is a Recorder and sits as a
Deputy High Court Judge in the Queens Bench Division and Chancery
Division, and the Technology and Construction Court. Cases he has tried involve
every aspect of commercial disputes and arbitrations, including banking and
insurance, and all types of construction disputes. He speaks German and has a
working knowledge of French.
