Mr. Legg was appointed to the
Supreme Court of British Columbia in September 1976. He was elevated to the
Court of Appeal of British Columbia in June 1989 and served on that Court until
his retirement from the Bench in February of 1997.
During his years as a Trial Judge, Mr. Legg presided
over a variety of civil and criminal cases. Many of these were concerned with
building and construction disputes and personal injury claims. He also presided
over a number of mini-trials and settlement conferences.
During his appointment as a Trial
and Court of Appeal Judge, Mr. Legg lectured to members of the Bar on
substantive matters and on practice and procedure. He also delivered lectures
on behalf of the Continuing Legal Education Society on Court of Appeal
Practice. When on the Trial Court, Mr. Legg was a member and Chairman of the
Supreme Court Rules Committee.
Prior to his appointment to the
Bench, Mr. Legg was a member of the law firm of Lawson Lundell where he
practiced civil litigation. His practice as counsel from 1951 to 1976 covered a
broad range of cases which included commercial, contractual and construction
disputes, and personal injury claims. He acted as Arbitrator on a number of
Arbitrations. He was also active as counsel before the Assessment Appeal
Board.
Mr. Legg is a graduate of the
University of British Columbia. He obtained his B.A. in 1950 and LL.B. in 1951.
He was called to the Bar in 1951, and was appointed Queens Counsel in
December 1971.
Mr. Legg was elected a Bencher of
the Law Society in 1969 and served as Treasurer of the Law Society from June
1975 to June 1976.
Mr. Legg served as a pilot in the
Royal Air Force from August 1941 to September 1946, when he retired with the
rank of Squadron Leader.

As a member of ADR Chambers, British
Columbia, Mr. Legg is available for all forms of alternative dispute
resolution, including Mediations, Arbitrations and Mini-Trials.
As a member of the ADR Chambers
Appeal Panel, he is also available to hear private appeals from Arbitral Awards
and Trial Judgments.
Mr. Legg completed the Advanced
Civil Mediation course sponsored by the Continuing Legal Education Society of
British Columbia in February 1997, and has taken further alternative dispute
resolution instruction from ADR Chambers.
